MANY INNOVATIONS FROM PIRELLI FOR THE FIRST EUROPEAN ROUND OF WORLDSBK
The new standard SC0 and two development solutions make their debut at Portimão: a soft rear and a wet front option.
· A new standard SC0. Starting from the Portuguese round, the D0640 specification soft solution, introduced as a development option in 2024 at the Aragón round and strengthened by the immediate appreciation of the riders of this and other championships, will be identified as the new standard SC0 for the rear. A process that is an integral part of Pirelli’s development and thus makes it possible to make up-to-date products available to all enthusiasts. In fact, with the promotion to standard tyre, the D0640 will soon be available on the market as the new SC0, in line with Pirelli’s philosophy of exploiting track experience to improve its product range, making innovations accessible to all motorcyclists.
· Development on the soft options continue. In addition to the new standard SC0, WorldSBK riders will also be able to count on the new E0125, a development soft rear that makes its official debut in Portugal. This solution retains the standard SC0 compound but has a different structure, designed to improve stability and ensure constant performance over race distance.
· New wet front. In case of rain, in addition to the standard SCR1, the new E0158 development specification will be available. This tyre features an innovative structure to increase the footprint and improve stability in the wet.
· Allocation for all classes. For the WorldSBK riders, there will be medium SC1 and hard SC2 for the front and four options for the rear: the supersoft SCX, for practice sessions, qualifying and the Superpole Race, the two soft SC0 variants – the standard one and the development E0125 – and the medium SC1. The same front compounds will be available also for WorldSSP, to be combined with SC0 or SC1 at the rear. For WorldSSP300, SC1 front and SC2 rear compound tyres will be available for this round, while for the R3 BLU CRU World Cup the compound for both axles will be SC1, throughout the season.
In Portimão we consolidate the development made and start the future one
“Portimão is a moderately severe track for the tyres, so it is an excellent proving ground to test some new solutions, in Pirelli’s classic path of continuous innovation. We decided to promote the D0640 specification to the new rear standard SC0: on its WorldSBK debut at Aragón as a development solution it won the trust of the riders, and then it also collected positive feedback in the winter tests at Jerez and Portimão and in the Moto2™ Championship, both in the two GPs held at Misano and in the pre-season tests at Jerez. Promoting it to a range compound was therefore a natural decision because it proved to be an improvement over the previous SC0. But our development is constantly and continuously evolving: alongside the new SC0, a soft in E0125 specification will make its debut, which features the same compound of the standard SC0 but has a different casing, with the aim of offering greater stability and consistency over race distance. Portimão is a demanding track in terms of abrasiveness for this reason, as in the past, the SCQ usually available for practice, qualifying and Superpole Race will be replaced in this role by the SCX. In case of rain, the WorldSBK riders will have two front wet options, with the new E0158 joining the standard SCR1.”
