NOKIAN TYRES RECEIVED A LEADERSHIP-LEVEL SCORE FROM CDP

For the fifth consecutive year, Nokian Tyres scored an A- from CDP for actions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change-related risks. The annual CDP Climate report is deemed one of the most trusted indicators for performance on corporate climate change mitigation. Scores A and A- represent leadership level.

Nokian Tyres aims to show leadership in sustainability, also in climate change mitigation. We have ambitiously cut emissions from tire factories, and we continuously work to be able to offer drivers tires that are not only safe but also sustainably manufactured,” says Teppo Huovila, Vice President, Quality and Sustainability at Nokian Tyres.

The company’s new factory in Romania was inaugurated in September 2024, and it sets an industry sustainability benchmark by being the first full-scale zero CO2 emission tire factory in the world. All energy used at the factory comes from zero-CO2-emission sources such as wind, hydro, biomass, solar energy, or a mix of these. Steam for tire manufacturing is produced without fossil fuels.

Additionally, as the only tire manufacturer, Nokian Tyres participates in the Polestar 0 project that aims to create a climate-neutral car by 2030. Nokian Tyres contributes to the project by developing fully climate-neutral premium tires.

Nokian Tyres’ new, tightened greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative in 2024, which means that the targets are considered to be in line with what the latest climate science deems necessary to limit global warming to 1.5 °C. In addition to the near-term 2030 targets, Nokian Tyres aims to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050.
