MICHELIN INTRODUCES HIGH-EFFICIENCY TYRES DESIGNED TO EXTEND EV RANGE AND ENHANCE PERFORMANCE

Michelin has introduced its new MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy and MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 Energy tyre ranges, designed for electric, hybrid and internal combustion vehicles. Both ranges aim to combine performance, longevity and energy efficiency.

With summer tyres accounting for around 80% of global annual tyre sales, Michelin is reinforcing its position in this segment with products designed to meet the evolving demands of modern mobility. The new tyres combine low rolling resistance, strong grip, extended lifespan and precise handling, while helping to increase EV range and reduce fuel consumption. Both ranges have already been approved by leading global automotive manufacturers.

According to Michelin, these innovations aim to eliminate the need to compromise between performance, safety, durability and efficiency, supporting the transition toward electrified mobility.

The MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy features a Triple A rating for efficiency, wet grip and noise. It can deliver up to 70 km of additional driving range for electric vehicles and reduce fuel consumption by up to 6%, while also lowering CO₂ emissions.

The tyre also offers A-rated wet braking performance, delivering braking distances up to 8% shorter than its predecessor. Thanks to Energy Passive 2.0 technology, it provides best-in-class longevity, with up to 40% longer lifespan compared to competitors.

In terms of efficiency, the tyre delivers measurable benefits including reduced fuel consumption, increased EV range and lower emissions over its lifecycle. It also contributes to improved acoustic comfort with reduced rolling noise.

The MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 Energy is designed for drivers seeking dynamic handling alongside energy efficiency. Developed using Michelin’s motorsport expertise, it combines high performance with efficiency-focused technologies.

With Dynamic Response Technology and Adaptive Grip Compound, the tyre delivers precise handling and strong grip in both wet and dry conditions. MaxTouch technology ensures even wear and improved longevity, while maintaining A-rated rolling resistance.

The tyre has also been tested in extreme conditions, maintaining a constant speed of 300 km/h for nearly eight days during testing with the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept XX, demonstrating its durability and efficiency.

The Primacy 5 Energy range is available in 33 sizes from 16 to 19 inches, while the Pilot Sport 5 Energy is available in 19 sizes from 19 to 21 inches.
